Road to Bank of the West Classic Kicks Off This Weekend

STANFORD, Calif. (www.BankOfTheWestClassic.com) - The 42nd annual Bank of the West Classic is quickly approaching and this year the event will host a series of "play days" for young tennis fans in the weeks leading up to the tournament. These family-style events are the perfect way for tennis players aged 10 and under to get involved with tennis and win tickets to the Bank of the West Classic, July 9-15 at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium at Stanford University.
The 'Road to the Bank of the West Classic' will consist of four days of tennis and family fun at various Bay Area tennis clubs. This USTA initiative allows tennis beginners to pair up with one of their parents, older siblings or other relatives to play the game together! The first event will take place this Sunday, May 20th from 11am-1pm at Almaden Valley Athletic Club in San Jose, CA.

WTA Launches Tender Process to Host Championships for 2014 and Beyond

PETERSBURG, FL, USA – The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), the world’s leading global sport for women, announced today the launch of the international tender process to identify the host city for its prestigious year-end WTA Championships for 2014 and beyond. The WTA’s year-end finale - with a global audience across 164 countries and a storied 40-year history of being hosted in a handful of iconic world cities - features the world’s top eight singles players and top four doubles teams competing for one of the most coveted titles in women’s tennis and a share of the multi-million prize money.
“The WTA Championships has gone from strength to strength over the past four decades, and is today recognized as one of a handful of truly blue chip international events on the world sporting calendar,” said Stacey Allaster, Chairman & CEO of the WTA. “Based on the significant demand by numerous cities around the world to invest in women’s tennis and host our year-end WTA Championships, we decided to launch an international bidding process to select a host city for 2014 and beyond. It’s a chance for some city somewhere to step up on the world stage. We are confident that through this process we will be able to identify the right city to become the next partner for the world’s premier sporting event for women.”

The event will pay tribute to 2012 inductees Jennifer Capriati, Guga Kuerten, Manuel Orantes, Mike Davies, and Randy Snow, and will feature special recognitions for additional people and businesses who have made significant contributions to growing the sport of tennis.
NEWPORT, R.I., May 10, 2012 - During one of the most exciting weekends of the tennis calendar, US Open finals weekend, the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum will once again add to the festivities with The Legends Ball, a gala event to be held on Friday, September 7 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. The Legends Ball will pay tribute to the Hall of Fame Class of 2012, which features former world No. 1's Jennifer Capriati and Guga Kuerten, as well as Spanish tennis great Manuel Orantes, tennis industry innovator and promoter Mike Davies, and wheelchair tennis star Randy Snow, who will be inducted posthumously.
